Novak Djokovic: I've had some thrilling matches with Nadal e Federer at ATP Finals
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic recalled his memories from the Nitto ATP Finals as he is preparing to play the prestigious season-ending event at The O2 Arena for the last time in his career.
Djokovic, 33, has claimed five Nitto ATP Finals titles throughout his career and he is aiming to win his sixth title at the event this year and equal Roger Federer's record of six titles.
"The O2 Arena was a very good place for this event. It was a wonderful setting. I had some thrilling matches with Roger and Rafa. This year, it will be strange without fans, but we are kind of used to it," Djokovic said, per Nikolaus Fink.
While speaking about the next season, 17-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic expressed some concern.
"It is not in our hands. It is a constant negotiation. It is complicated. There should be more communication," Djokovic said.
Djokovic not taking Diego Schwartzman for grantedDjokovic will kick off his Nitto ATP Finals campaign on Monday, when he meets top-ranked Argentine Schwartzman -- who is set to make his debut appearance at the season-ending event.
"He never played on this court, but he doesn’t have any pressure to do well. This is probably the best season of his life. Fierce competior, solid from both wings and one of the quickest on the Tour," Djokovic said of Schwartzman, per Sasa Ozmo.
Djokovic and Schwartzman were placed in Group Tokyo 1970 and the remaining two players drawn inside that group were Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev.
Medvedev and Zverev clashed against each other in the Paris Masters final last week as the Russian edged out the German in three sets to lift his first title of the season.
"Zverev and Medvedev are probably in the best form out of all of us indoors. Big serves, solid backhands, similar style. With the way they are playing, you have to be at your best in order to have a chance to win," Djokovic claimed.
Djokovic's goal of securing the year-end No. 1 ranking was achieved after he made the quarterfinal in Vienna.
Djokovic's next goal is to win the Nitto ATP Finals and end the season on a high note.
"Year end no1 releases some of the pressure, but it doesn’t change what I am here for - I want this trophy as much as anybody here. I feel more comfortable and confident with the success I’ve had here.
