2020 memories: Daniil Medvedev won the ATP Finals

In one of the most incredible, particular and dramatic seasons ever, the great tennis stars like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams still managed to shine, for one reason or another.

On the strength of his victory at the Paris Rolex Masters, Daniil Medvedev reached the ATP Finals in London as the fittest player among the eight participants. Inserted in the 1970 Tokyo Group with Novak Dokovic, Alexander Zverev and Diego Schwartzman, during the first match Medvedev overtook Zverev in two sets. In the second match, he got the better of Djokovic with a double 6-3, thus securing first place in the group and access to the semifinal. The Russian then also won the last match, beating the Argentine Schwartzman with a double 6-3.

In the semifinal he defeated Rafael Nadal for the first time in his career with a score of 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3, thus reaching his first final at the Masters at the end of the year. Medvedev ended the season by winning the ninth title of his career, beating Dominic Thiem in the final with the score of 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4, finishing the tournament unbeaten and becoming the fourth Open Era player to have defeated the top three players of the world ranking in the same tournament.
