Nick Kyrgios: "I'm the best on the Tour for..."

When we talk about the Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios, we are talking about one of the most particular athletes and sportsmen in recent tennis history, an absolutely out of the box tennis player who often gets more talked about outside than inside the playing court.

The latest release of the Aussie player has in fact once again surprised the insiders. Speaking on the occasion of the release of the PlayStation 5, Kyrgios made a promotional video in which he spoke and made surprising statements: "I think I'm the best tennis player on the Tour. Athletes are generally very confident and think they can play well too, but not everyone can."

During this presentation, the number 45 to the world also spoke about the future and his possible abandonment of the world of tennis. Regarding this, Kyrgios said: "When I reach 10 years spent at the professional level, I think I will try to make the switch and become a gamer. In this 2020 Nick was the protagonist more outside than inside the court (once again): the Aussie has quarreled several times on social networks with his colleagues, first of all criticizing Zverev for the video where the German danced without respecting distancing and then criticized also Novak Djokovic (and other tennis players) for playing basketball quietly without respecting the rules.

In recent months Kyrgios has attacked hard (for other reasons) former tennis players of the caliber of Boris Becker and Mats Wilander with quite poisonous statements for the latter.

This year, at the Australian Open, he plays an excellent tournament, beating Lorenzo Sonego in three sets in the first round, Gilles Simon in four in the second and Karen Chačanov in the third round, after almost five hours in the super tie-break of the fifth set for 10-8. In the fourth round he finds Rafael Nadal, but is defeated with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6 (6) -7, 6 (4) -7.

After forfeiting the ATP 250 in New York and Delray Beach due to wrist problems, he returns to the field as a defending champion at the ATP 500 in Acapulco but is forced to abandon the match against Ugo Humbert at the end of the first set due to persistence pain in the left wrist.

After the stop of the circuit which lasted five months due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, he forfeits Cincinnati and the US Open, out of respect for the hundreds of thousands of Americans who lost their lives during the pandemic, and also in Rome and at Roland Garros. He does not even participate in the autumn European indoor tour.
