2020 memories: Dominic Thiem won the US Open

In one of the most incredible, particular and dramatic seasons ever, the great tennis stars like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams still managed to shine, for one reason or another.

After losing three finals in the Slams, Dominic Thiem had a great chance at the US Open, especially due to the absences of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, and the disqualification of Novak Djokovic in the fourth round. The Austrian, seed no.2, defeated Jaume Munar in succession, who is forced to retire with the Austrian leading by two sets to zero; Sumit Nagal, Marin Cilic, champion of the 2014 edition, Félix Auger-Aliassime and Alex De Minaur.

In the semifinals, he knocked out 2019 finalist Daniil Medvedev in four sets. His second consecutive Grand Slam final, after the one in Melbourne, saw him triumph over Alexander Zverev at the fifth set tiebreaker, after being two sets and one break behind, scoring 2-6 4-6 6- 4 6-3 7-6 (6) in 242 minutes of battle, winning the first Major in his career. It was not since the 1949 US Open that there was a two-set comeback in a New York Grand Slam final and since Roland Garros in 2004 that this did not happen in a Grand Slam final.
