Garbine Muguruza hits Davidovich Fokina during training!
Garbine Muguruza, world number one for four weeks in 2017, occupies today the 15th position in the WTA rankings. In her career she has won seven titles on the WTA Tour: Hobart, Beijing, one edition of the French Open and Wimbledon, Cincinnati and two trophies at the Monterrey Mexico event.
Her last final dates back to the 2020 Australian Open, when she came just one set away from her first triumph in Melbourne. This year she reached the semi-finals in Shenzhen and Rome, as well as the quarter-finals played in Hobart, Dubai and Doha.
At the US Open she went out in the second round, while in New York she lost in the third match against American Danielle Collins. The native of Caracas is training these days at the prestigious Club de Tenis Puente Romano in Marbella, Spain, where she has already enjoyed the chance to dribble with cuntryman Feliciano Lopez.
The latest sparring partner was the young Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, with whom Garbine embarked on a fun exchange at the net that ended with the Spaniard who hit the Malaga player on the side.

Number 52 in the world, Alejandro has played thirteen tournaments this year: a considerable number, considering that the season has been practically halved due to the Coronavirus pandemic. His best result is the semi-final played in the Cologne 1 event and the round of 16 in New York, as well as those played in the Masters 1000 in Paris-Bercy, France. Born in 1999, Fokina is currently the youngest Spanish player in the top 100.
