Is Dominic Thiem skilled enough to be the world no. 1?

Dominic Thiem won his first Major this year at the US Open. The winner of 17 ATP titles is ranked third in the world. Dominic Thiem shows improved skills whenever he plays matches.

For future reference, many gurus of tennis say that one day, Dominic Thiem will claim the world’s top ATP position.

Nicolas Massu’s view about Dominic Theim:

”You try to be a winner, you are thinking in the future all the time,” said his coach, Nicolas Massu,  “This is our life. You always want more, and I think it’s the same situation for Domi now.”

Massu joined Thiem's coaching team in 2019 and since then, Thiem's career has been on a constant upward trajectory. Thiem reached the finals of the Australian Open (lost to Novak Djokovic) earlier in January 2020. He also reached the US Open final before beating Alexander Zverev for his first Major title. In 2018 and 2019, Thiem reached the French Open finals but lost on both occasions to Rafael Nadal. Thiem also reached the final of the ATP Finals in London but lost to Daniil Medvedev. It was the second time in two years that Thiem has had lost the ATP Finals' final. Last year, in 2019, Thiem had lost the final in London to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Under the mentorship of Massu, Thiem has also committed to playing the 2021 Tokyo Olympics for his country, Austria. Previously, Thiem had mentioned several times that playing the Olympics wasn't a priority for him. Massu won the singles and doubles gold (with Fernando Gonzalez) medals for Chile at the 2004 Athens Games.

Sayings of Nicolas Massu shows that Dominic Thiem is a man who always thinks about the future, his plays and strategies for match shows that no one could stop him from becoming the world no. 1. Nicolas is trying to say that from his past till now he struggled a lot and brought many improvements in Thiem playing strategy.

Massu also said, "He already won one Grand Slam, but for sure he is working to win more and to, why not, one day be on the top of the rankings."

Not just his coach, there are other analysts and experts who also think about the same way about Dominic Thiem becoming one of the best players of the future tennis.
