'Roger Federer actually said I should improve my serve', says young star

Dominic Stephan Stricker was lucky enough to train with Roger Federer in early 2020 and about nine months later he managed to win Roland Garros Junior in both singles and doubles by losing only one set in both categories. French Open 2020 junior champion Dominic Stricker recently talked about the brilliance of his countryman Roger Federer. The Swiss teenager also expressed his desire to emulate Federer.

In a recent interview Dominic Stricker talked about how he wants to follow in the footsteps of Roger Federer, even if it is unlikely for him to reach the same heights. “I don't know if there will be another player in the history of men's tennis who will play as well and win as much as he does,” Stricker said. “But you see Federer, and of course you want to be what he is." In an interview from October this year, Stricker had revealed how Federer and Wawrinka had reached out to him as well as Riedi after the match. “Roger and Stan both texted,” Stricker had told itftennis.com. “Roger texted the coach of Leandro and said to pass on his congratulations to both of us, telling us to enjoy what we’d achieved. Stan also messaged both of us yesterday in a chat to wish us good luck. Roger actually said I should improve my serve. That's what I did actually,” said Stricker. “I think my serve is pretty good now. It helped me a lot here.” There is another major doubt revolving around the dates of the 2021 Australian Open. With the 14-day quarantine in the picture, there were rumors that players could start coming from 25th December 2020. However, it didn’t stand any ground and was not considered. Now, the tournament will most probably begin from 25th January 2021 and will extend till mid-February. But, this will affect the ATP and WTA tournaments scheduled in February. The voting process has begun and now it’ll decide whether to agree with protocols or not. Fans definitely hope to see a great 2021 season beginning from the Australian Open 2021. Amidst all the issues, the 14-day quarantine seems to be the major problem for the players. It will be quite strict as the players will only be able to leave their hotel for five hours in order to eat and train. This has received some serious criticism from players like Benoit Paire and other professionals. It’s now up to the Council to take the decision on the matter. The Council has already dismissed World No.1 Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil. The final decision will now depend on players including Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Apart from the 20-time Grand Slam winners, the Council also includes Kevin Anderson, John Millman, Andy Murray, and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
