Roger Federer's 2020 highlights

Roger Federer's season was passing through: marked above all by the two surgeries to his right fagot, which practically stopped all expectations and motivations, together with the global COVID-19 pandemic.

During this season the Swiss Maestro only played in the Australian Open, where he passed the first two rounds without too many problems, leaving only thirteen games to his opponents. In the third round, he was taken to the fifth set by John Millman, and won 10-8 at the super tiebreaker. Federer then left a set to Márton Fucsovics in the fourth round, while in the quarter-finals he was again forced to the fifth set by Tennys Sandgren, but managed to overcome him 6-3, 2-6, 2-6, 7-6 (8 ), 6-3 canceling seven match points and thus reaching the semifinal. In the penultimate act of the competition, Federer faced world number two Novak Djokovic, being defeated in three sets. On February 7, 2020 Roger attended a performance in Cape Town against Rafael Nadal with a record crowd of over 51,000 and won by 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Also present at the match Bill Gates and Trevor Noah, in what was a real show. In the same month of February Federer announced that he had undergone a surgery on his right knee, with the intention of returning on the court for the grass-season, but the suspension of competitions due to the pandemic, which obviously also resulted in the cancellation of the grass-season.

The cancelation of the grass-swing made him take a new decision: in fact in mid-June he announced that he had undergone a new surgery, always on his right knee and therefore the end of his season.

Match for Africa 6 was 2020 Federer's best moment

The Swiss champion wanted to thank everyone for Match for Africa 6, a unique and incredible event, a success with the crowd and charity: "What an unforgettable night: we raised 3.5 million dollars for vulnerable children in the region, which reached a record world with over 51,000 spectators during a tennis match and we had a lot of fun. Match for Africa six was a unique moment in my life. Thanks to the three inspiring philanthropists Rafa, Bill and Trevor for sharing this beautiful moment. Thanks to the hundreds of people who organized this meeting for Africa and created a high-class event. But most of all, thank you South Africa, thank you Cape Town for your great participation and for making a difference to those most in need."

Lynette Durand, Roger's mother, is South African and was particularly keen on the success of the event. But perhaps even she didn't expect such a massive participation. Between dances, music, colors, master strokes, irony and smiles, for the umpteenth time Roger Federer has shown that he is not only a winner on the pitch but that he has the ability to raise awareness and stimulate people all over the world on issues and problems that are too often forgotten.
