'I wish to see Roger Federer in action, entire world is missing him,' says..

World no. 12 Belinda Bencic is among those 72 players who can't leave the Melbourne quarantine room and practice ahead of the season's first Major. The Swiss is using her room bicycle and trying to do everything to keep her body active, just like any other player in the previous ten days or som in Melbourne. Bencic is not pleased with the conditions and the fact that the top-ranked players are in a much better position in Adelaide, praising Novak Djokovic for at least pointing out problems. Bencic will give her everything to use the first week of February and gain at least some momentum before the Australian Open. The Swiss grabbed only nine Australian Open victories from seven Melbourne trips since 2014, hoping to change that from February 8. Belinda mentioned her compatriot Roger Federer, saying that the entire tennis world is missing the 20-time Major champion. Belinda wishes to see Roger on the court as soon as possible, pointing out that he didn't miss much in 2020.

Federer had to undergo two knee surgeries in February and May last year, playing only one tournament at the Australian Open and skipping the rest of the year for his shortest season in a career. Federer is currently in Dubai, shaping his game and targeting Doha and Dubai as his first comeback tournaments. Belinda and Roger won back-to-back Hopman Cup titles for Switzerland in 2018 and 2019, beating Germany in both finals to write history books. In the last Hopman Cup edition so far, Federer and Bencic took down Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber 2-1 on January 5, 2019, following a roller coaster ride.

Federer was too strong for Zverev in the first match, and Bencic had a chance to secure the trophy in the second singles match. Instead of that, Kerber prevailed 6-4, 7-6 to keep Germany alive and set the deciding mixed doubles clash. In one of the tournament's best matches, the Swiss duo scored a 4-0, 1-4, 4-3 victory in an hour and three minutes, winning a thrilling point at 4-4 in the deciding tie break to defend the trophy and start a massive celebration.

"The whole tennis world misses Roger. Tennis without him is always sadder. I'm hoping, and I'm very confident that he will come back soon. At least he didn't miss much last year," Belinda Bencic said.
