Iga Swiatek: "Roland Garros won't be my only Slam"

Interviewed by the WTA website, Iga Swiatek talked about her coach Piotr Sierzputowski and the results she already intends to achieve starting from the new season. The 2020 season ended in the best possible way for her, who raised her first Grand Slam trophy at the Roland Garros in Paris, after the victories obtained over Marketa Vondrousova, Su-Wei Hsieh, Eugenie Bouchard, Simona Halep, Martina Trevisan, Nadia Podoroska and Sofia Kenin in the final.

She said: “My coach and I have a great relationship off the court. It is very important to me, because I feel comfortable when I travel. Before, when my team was smaller, I only trained with him because he was the only person who supported me. He was with me regardless of what happened.

Besides, he's open-minded. He is learning with me. We could say that her player has already won a Major title, but in reality, when we talked about the goals for the new season - she said that she would be satisfied only when I won others. The Roland Garros trophy will not be the only one and I will prove to be a constant and mature player. I know that he is ambitious and that you want to learn more."

Finally, the player from Warsaw talked about her political positions: “In the last few months I was thinking about it, because in Poland there have been some political events that everyone was talking about but I have not made any statements.

I was wondering if this was the right time or not. But everything is still new to me. I have an opinion, but I keep it private. I know that when I am ready I will say my idea, like Naomi Osaka did. I really hope I can do it in the future, but I'm only 19 now and I still have to figure out how things work. Right now I think I am the right person to represent a role model in the world of tennis, but when I think about having a greater impact on politics and society I still feel I still need time."
