Marcus Daniell: I don't have much faith in Novak Djokovic's PTPA

Kiwi doubles specialist Marcus Daniell has admitted that he doesn't have much faith in Novak Djokovic's Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA). 

Last season, world No. 1 Djokovic and Canadian Vasek Pospisil created the PTPA, hoping to ensure better rights for players on the Tour. 

"The ATP has dropped the ball a little bit on communication in the past years and the PTPA was set up as a result of that, with players feeling a little left out and they didn’t understand why or what decisions were made,” ATP Player Council member Daniell told Stuff.

“I can understand the sentiment that led to the PTPA, but I really don’t have much faith in the PTPA as an organisation, just from what I’ve seen of it and what I experienced in the big group chat they had.

“I was a part of that group chat until I got elected to the Player Council and then I thought I couldn’t maintain integrity and be a part of that and also on the Player Council.

“So I left that and haven’t been fully up to date with what’s been going on there in the past weeks."

Daniell.simply doesn't have much belief in the PTPA

“I don’t think it has legs as an organisation on its own,” Daniel added.

It’s too combative and I know Vasek and Novak have been really careful to position it in a way that doesn’t seem combative.

“But just the very nature of it, means that it’s in conflict with the ATP.

“I don’t think it’s going to do a huge amount by itself, but the positive I think has come from it is that it’s given the ATP a kick up the bum, in terms of being more on top of communications and letting players know where things stand and why certain decisions are made.

“So that’s one positive which has come out of it, but I really don’t think it’s going to do too much more than that.”
