Bianca Andreescu: "I'm not ashamed to show my emotions"

In the press conference after the defeat at the Miami Open 2021 final against Ahleigh Barty, the Canadian Bianca Andreescu talked about the match: she was forced, in the second set, to retire after an injury, yet another of her young career.

She said: "After the injury my fitness coach made me realize that I should stop. It had already happened before I had pushed my body up to worsen the problem that was stopping me. This time I trusted my team, and I know it was the right decision.

It was still a positive tournament for me, I've spent so many hours on the pitch that I feel like I've played three tournaments in one, and it's fantastic, because it has really helped my confidence.

In Australia I felt overwhelmed by everything that was happening, and I'm happy to have played my first matches back, because I am convinced that those games helped me achieve this splendid result.

Andreescu and Barty's press conference

It cost me a lot to do what I did today, but I am convinced that it was good to have made this decision, it was the right decision. I'm not ashamed to show my emotions, on and off the court, because by doing so I hope to be able to lead by example and show that and one's emotions does not mean being weak, and that there is nothing wrong with doing it.

Ashleigh was very nice to me, she told me she was sorry and that we will surely meet many more times. Her game is very varied, she likes to alternate shots, a bit like me. Now I know what it feels like to play against me."

In the Ashleigh Barty's press conference, the Australian said: "I honestly don't think I have to prove anything to anyone. I am aware of the work I do day in and day out on the court and in the gym. Last year I didn't play, and it's true that I haven't.

I lost points for it, but I haven't even had a chance to improve my ranking like the other players did. I know there are people who think that you don't deserve to be in world no.1, and that's part of the order natural of things, everyone has the right to his opinion. But since these are opinions that I cannot change in any way, I do not let them influence me. "
