Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have played 50 times on the Tour, forging one of our sport's greatest rivalries and competing for many notable titles. Novak's father Srdjan is not Roger Federer's greatest supporter, telling some harsh things about the Swiss star for the last 15 years without the intention to stop anytime soon. In a recent interview, the older Djokovic said that he would love to see Roger Federer playing for five or six more years so that Novak can beat him many times and improve his already positive head-to-head score against the Swiss.

Federer had to skip 13 months due to a knee injury, undergoing two surgeries and returning to the court last month in Doha. His final match before the break came against Novak in the last year's Australian Open semi-final, with the Serb beating an injured opponent in straight sets to advance into the title clash.

Since 2019, Roger and Novak have played three times, twice in the mentioned season when they shared victories. At Wimbledon 2019, Novak prevailed in the most epic final at the All England Club, winning all three tie breaks and prevailing in just under five hours after fending off two match points. Federer had the upper hand in London in November that year before Novak returned to the winning path a couple of months later in Melbourne, scoring his sixth consecutive Major triumph over Roger.

"I disapprove of what happed in New York; Novak hit that woman by accident. That happened to Federer, Nadal and others before, and no one was defaulted except Novak. They don't have respect towards the world's leading player, quite the opposite. Novak will compete in Belgrade with the biggest pride; it's a family event in his town and country. Dominic Thiem will also play; it's still a small tournament, but he respects Novak and wants to compete in Serbia. Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are the greatest players in history; they have pushed each other to achieve more. We should look at them from that angle; they can't be friends while chasing big titles and the ATP throne. I would love to see Federer playing for five or six more years so that Novak can improve the head-to-head score with him even more," Srdjan Djokovic said.
