Yealimi Noh: "I lost a lot of money, my fault"
Getting to the bottom of a golf tournament and ending up financially in the red doesn't happen every day. It happened, however, to 19-year-old Yealimi Noh, freshman on the LPGA Tour. The American closed the Kia Classic, losing $ 5,753 out of her own pocket. Reason: slow play penalty.
A situation that the rookie (last year's status but frozen after the pandemic year) would have liked to avoid but which from a formal point of view she is flawless. Noh was in fact sanctioned with a 10 thousand dollar fine for slow play. The figure was well in excess of $ 4,247 earned on the field, by virtue of the 67th place finish in the race in California. Not exactly an exciting weekend for Yealimi who after two warnings for slow play on holes 10 and 12 she was officially sanctioned.
Unfortunately for her this is not the first time. Even in her first ever game on the LPGA, Noh was caught slowing down the pace of the day. At the Gainbridge LPGA in Boca Rio the American finished 35th but was penalized for being slow. That time the mitigating circumstances were there: an 18-year-old for the first time on the pitch with the professionals.
Yealimi Noh, statementsNothing to complain this time with the direct interested party intending not to appeal against the fine. “I can't do it - she told Golfweek - because it's all my fault. It will serve as a lesson, of course I will never do it again. I lost a lot of money ”.
In California Patty Tavatanakit dominates and wins, with 270 (66 69 67 68, -18) hits the ANA Inspiration, the first major 2021 of women's golf. At Rancho Mirage enterprise show for the Thai, who overtakes the New Zealand Lydia Ko, second with 272 (-16) and thus becomes the first rookie to conquer the tournament - now in its 50th edition - since 1984 when the company was signed Juli Inkster, who later established herself as one of the most important American players.
At 21 years, 4 months and 25 days, the Tavatanakit is the 14th in the history of the LPGA Tour to conquer a Grand Slam tournament. She was born in Bangkok, she made herself known in 2019 when she imposed herself 3 times on the Symetra Tour, the second US circuit.
