Italian Open 2021: the Government's decision about the crowd

There are now a few days away and the official decision of the Government has arrived regarding the presence of the  crowd at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, in Rome. The event will start on May 8th, there were many rumors about it but in the end the public will be present at the tournament.

From Novak Djokovic to Rafael Nadal, up to our Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner, the fans will be able to see all their favorites players, a great news for all the Capitoline supporters. Of the Top Ten in the tournament, only Swiss champion Roger Federer will be missing, still absent on clay so far, while world number one Novak Djokovic, absent this week in Madrid, will return.

In the men's wildcard draw assigned to Lorenzo Musetti, Salvatore Caruso, Stefano Travaglia plus one between Cecchinato and Mager. In the women's wildcard assigned to Camila Giorgi, Martina Trevisan and Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

Through a note communicated by the Government, the organizers themselves confirmed the presence, at least in part, of the crowd in the stands.

The government note on the Internationals of Italy

Italian Tennis Federation has released the following statement where she has also clarified what to do for who and how to participate in the event:

1. With reference to the 2021 edition of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, scheduled in Rome from 8 to 16 May 2021, pursuant to article 5, paragraph 3, of the law decree 22 April 2021 n.

52 and in compliance with the protocol referred to in the introduction and annexed to this provision to be an integral part of it, starting from the date of the round of 16 matches and for the subsequent rounds, public access is allowed to an extent not exceeding 25% of the overall capacity of the facilities intended to host the event.

2. In addition to the measures already provided for in the protocol attached to this provision, the organizers of the event referred to in paragraph 1 are obliged to make available to spectators a sufficient number of distributors of hydroalcoholic solutions, as well as to ensure that, within the area of ​​the event, FFP2 model masks are worn.

3. It is up to the local health authorities to define the details of the operational aspects useful for a better implementation of the prevention and containment measures of the contagion envisaged by this provision and the attached protocol, as well as to check their compliance.
