Serena Williams: "The Roland Garros? Now I focus only for Rome"
Having now reached this long-lasting point in her career, the twenty-three times champion of women's Grand Slam titles, Serena Williams obviously does not participate in all tournaments and every time there is great curiosity about which events she will select and which not.
The declared goal of her now is to conquer the 24 Slam in career and thus reach the record of Billie Jean King, tennis player with the most Majors in history. After the defeat at the Australian Open everyone feared a possible announcement of her retirement, but Serena does not seem to want to give up and this week she returns to the protagonist by participating in the Masters 1000 WTA in Rome.
In the press conference before her first match in Rome, the American player talked about her future plans and her calendar in this particular 2021.
The words of Serena Williams at the press conferenceThe American champion made interesting statements: "I must say that everything is going quite well and I feel very good on these courts. I enjoy training and am happy and energized for this clay tour. The truth is that I have recharged the batteries, it is always good news to start over even if it seems difficult. I trained very well in the Academy, then also in America I did a specific and intense work for clay-courts."
Criticism about the calendar choices: "I don't get much involved in what people say about me, if I listen to everyone I could go crazy and I'm aware of it. The truth is that I'm good at this, I always play even if people I don't see it and in general I don't have to show my cards to everyone.
The Roland Garros? Right now I'm in Rome and I'm thinking about this tournament, a place I love and where I feel good. I hope to play some good games here and then there will be time to think about the next Grand Slam, which is something I really care about.
I will try to be ready for Paris, now I only think of Rome, one of my favorite cities in the world. I love this city, I have great friends that I made during my adolescence and I love going back to these places."
