ATP attacks Novak Djokovic's PTPA: "It is dividing the players"

The PTPA of Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil has returned to make itself heard after months of silence. The Professional Tennis Players Association has in fact appointed an Executive Director and an Advisory Council in the last few hours.

The first position will be held by Adam Larry, a Canadian lawyer who for some has worked for the Players Association of the North American professional hockey league. The Advisory Council will instead be composed of Bill Ackman, Michale Hirshfeld, Rebbecca Macdonald, Katarina Pijetlovic and Andon Rable.

The idea of the PTPA is to represent the players on the circuit and to guarantee them greater rights from every point of view. The response of the ATP was not long in coming. "Created by the players and for the players, the PTPA has united and mobilized tennis players from all over the world in order to create transparency and fairness in the decision-making process in professional tennis - emerges from the statement of the Association - With the establishment of our Advisory Council, our branding and communications team, and the appointment of Adam Larry as Executive Director, we have taken an important step towards our goal: to facilitate a fair and sustainable competitive environment for football players. today and for the next generations."

ATP attacks Novak Djokovic's PTPA

The Association of Tennis Professionals has drawn up a very tough statement. We can read: "Protecting and promoting the interests of players has been a fundamental principle of the ATP since its founding as a players association in 1972.

In 1990, this was further strengthened with the formation of the ATP Tour, an equal partnership between players and tournaments. With this, the players have achieved something unique in the sport: an equal voice in all decisions affecting the Tour.

On the contrary, the creation of a separate entity offers a clear overlap, divides the players and further fragments the tennis. Fragmentation has consistently been identified as the greatest threat to tennis's growth potential by leading experts inside and outside the sport, something the ATP is currently working to address."

Novak Djokovic will lead the main draw at the upcoming Wimbledon 2021, the most anticiped tennis event of the season, aspecially after last year its wasn't played due to COVID-19 haelth emergency.
