Elina Svitolina not taking Camila Giorgi for granted at Tokyo Olympics

Ukraine tennis star Elina Svitolina has acknowledged that she knows Camila Giorgi's game very well and that she will be ready to face the world No..58 at the Tokyo Olympics

On Tuesday, Svitolina handed a 5-7 6-3 6-4 loss to Greece's Maria Sakkari to progress into the Tokyo quarterfinal.

“I know her [Giorgi’s] game. It’s not going to be a big surprise for me,” Svitolina said, per the ITF website. “She strikes the ball big so I have to be ready for that. It’s going to be another tough battle, so I’ll try and bring my best game.

“I only look to my next match. It is what it is and I have my next tough opponent. I have to recover physically to bring a good game tomorrow.

“I am trying not to think about my body but it’s hurting here and there. In the end, I’m very happy with the win today. It was another tough battle but it definitely brings me a lot of confidence and I will now spend hours recovering and will be ready for tomorrow.”

Belinda Bencic joins Svitolina in the winners' circle

Switzerland's Bencic also booked a win on Tuesday, having beaten Barbora Krejcikova 1-6 6-2 6-3.

“A Swiss day in all matters,” Bencic said. “We also had great results in different sports for Switzerland. It’s kind of very motivating. I’m super happy now. It was a really great day.”

Bencic will be fighting Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova for a place in the Tokyo semifinals.

“She is a very dangerous opponent,” added Bencic. “Right now, she is playing the best tennis of her whole career. For sure, it’s a very difficult match, like always.

“Every match, your opponent is very difficult. I’m really happy about today. I go with a free mind tomorrow. I think I did a great result here and I really can just enjoy now.”
