Luka Doncic: 'The one with the most photos is Novak Djokovic'

In spite of the many concerns related to the pandemic still underway, the Tokyo Olympics are proceeding in the right direction so far. The tennis tournament was marked by countless forfeits on the eve, including the painful renunciations of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams. All the spotlight is on world number 1 Novak Djokovic, who has already won three Grand Slams this year and cradles the dream of achieving a sensational 'Calendar Golden Slam'. The Serbian champion passed the first two rounds without any problem, having ruled the Bolivian Hugo Dellien and the German Jan-Lennard Struff without leaving a single set on the road. The 20-time Grand Slam champion is also one of the main attractions in the Olympic Village, where he took a large number of photos together with athletes from other disciplines. The 34-year-old from Belgrade has shown himself available to everyone, having always appreciated the atmosphere that reigns in a unique event like the Games. Meanwhile, NBA star Luka Doncic - busy with his Slovenia - admitted he was impressed by the attention being paid to Nole.

After the match, the 22-year-old opened up on his Olympic debut experience. “I like being a star of the Games; I feel good to be one of the stars if I am,” Luka Doncic said. Hence, Doncic suggested that although he’s enjoying success at the Olympics, he is not taking as many pictures as Novak Djokovic. “I’m taking a lot of photos, yes, there could be more, although the one with the most photos is Djokovic,” he remarked. By defeating Struff in the second round on Monday, Djokovic extended his win-streak to 20 matches. The Serb last tasted defeat in the final of the Italian Open to Rafael Nadal more than 70 days ago. Since then, the Serb has gone on to win the Belgrade Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and two matches in Tokyo. “The crucial moment of the match was my break in the 10th game of the first set. I took the lead and after that it was easier for me in the second,” said Djokovic. “I am satisfied with how I played, it was better than in the first round, especially from the baseline. Fokina is the only one now on my mind, the priority is the next match, I can’t look at what Medvedev, Tsitsipas or Zverev are doing, my biggest rival is here [in the form of Davidovich Fokina],” Djokovic said.
