Eugenie Bouchard: Tennis needs a bad guy like Nick Kyrgios

Canada's Eugenie Bouchard didn't think that Reilly Opelka touched the net during the key moments of the second set tie-break against Nick Kyrgios.

Opelka appeared to touch the net at 4-4 in the second set tie-break but umpire remained silent and the Australian unloaded on the umpire.

"What are you watching? I saw his foot touch the net and you're not going to call it," Kyrgios said to the umpire.

"What else could you be watching, bro? I can see his foot touch the net from where I am, and you don't call anything. It's a joke, bro. It cost me the f---ing set. Bulls---."

Opelka ended up winning the tie-break and claiming a 4-6 7-6 (4) 6-4 win in the Toronto Masters first round.

However, Bouchard thinks that Kyrgios is good for the game.

"I don’t think Reilly Opelka touched the net. Nick Kyrgios was just finding and picking things to get angry on. But it’s still entertaining. I’m still a fan. I think tennis needs a bad guy like Nick," Bouchard said on Tennis Channel.

Kyrgios feeling 'weird' about his career

"I feel like I actually enjoyed my tennis more when it was so up and down,” Kyrgios said I. Washington last week. “Like you see me today, like I’m losing and I’m barely getting angry. I actually miss the days when I was losing and I was carrying on and I was getting fined and I was throwing my racquets, I was carrying on.

“That just meant that I just cared a lot. Do you know what I mean? Like I actually cared what was happening. Now I lose and I’m actually happy for the other guy. Back then, I couldn’t stand the other guy. Now I’m like… I don’t know, I don’t know. I always had this theory when people got angry when they’re losing, really angry, that it was a sign that they cared. Do you know what I mean? Like it’s positive. Now, I don’t know. It’s weird, man. It’s really weird.”
