Genie Bouchard: "Fingers crossed for the US Open"

It is a particularly troubled year for the Canadian Eugenie Bouchard, who was forced to stop in the pits since March due to a problem in her right shoulder, which required surgery.

The 27-year-old from Montréal, after failing to qualify for the main draw of the Australian Open in February, she played a couple of other tournaments, including the Guadalajara Open in Mexico, where she lost in the final to Sorribes Tormo. From that moment, her shoulder problem made itself felt, but Bouchard decided to continue her season by undergoing treatments, which however did not produce the desired effects.

In fact, at the WTA in Monterrey, there was a bad defeat in the first round against the Chinese Lin Zhu, perhaps not heavy in the result (5-7, 6-7) but certainly from a psychological point of view. From there the operation and the long stop, which made her slide to 131st place in the ranking.

However, the physical problems now seem to leave the Canadian tennis player alone, who is now aiming for a return to the US Open in style. The finalist of Wimbledon 2014, recently interviewed in a show with the Tennis Channel, spoke of her return to the court, using a joke to wish herself good luck, quoting her colleague Sloane Stephens, who in 2017 was also a guest on the show and then triumphed at Flushing Meadows.

She said during the interview: "Yes, they see what a real job is and they realize that tennis is much better. Sure, I know Sloane Stephens had that tough year and she made a big leap right away when she got back. We cross our fingers that I can do the same."

At the end of the month, precisely on August 30, the American Grand Slam will start, which will end on September 12: the former world number 5 will try in every way to make up for it, hoping that her fate does not reserve other unpleasant ones unexpected events.
