Nick Kyrgios: I don’t know where I’m at, I feel strange about my career
Former world No. 13 Nick Kyrgios is happy to be back to the Citi Open in Washington.
Kyrgios, now ranked at No. 77 in the world, is set to make his third appearance on the hard courts of Washington.
Kyrgios debuted at the Citi Open in 2017 but it wasn't a memorable campaign.
After a first round bye at the tournament, Kyrgios was forced to retire his round-of-16 match against Tennys Sandgren.
However, Kyrgios returned to Washington in 2019 and made it all the way after beating Daniil Medvedev in the final.
“I have always felt at home here. I remember the first time I came to play the tournament, everyone welcomed me with hugs, it was like I was playing in Australia, so it made me feel very comfortable. I love the fans, I'm happy to see the city totally open and the crowds with full capacity, it's amazing. You can feel that energy on the court, so it's great to have a packed stadium to enjoy it," Kyrgios said, as quoted on Punto de Break.
Kyrgios hints he could retire soonKyrgios played his last tournament of the 2020 season in February on Acapulco.
This season, Kyrgios has only played five tournaments so far.
"Honestly, I don't miss it so much anymore," Kyrgios said, when asked did he miss the Tour. "It's good to be back, of course, especially in these tournaments where I'm so comfortable and there are a lot of people, hopefully everything goes well. Instead, the situation is still crazy, every time I play a tournament I feel those vibes that tell me that this could be the last time I am here. In Atlanta I felt the same. It's like I don't know where I am, I feel weird, I feel weird about my career right now. Seeing the fans again is the best part of being back, seeing all their support."
