2018 U18 Australian Champion.: Dellavedova, Sweeny and Hijikata reach QF

The U18 Australian Championships is taking place at the Melbourne Park this week, with some of the best juniors from the country fighting for the title and the place in the qualifying round of the upcoming Australian Open. Wednesday has brought the last round robin matches and the quarter-final field is now completed, with eight players staying in the title hunt. In Group A, the 7th seed and 2017 champion Alexander Crnokrak delivered the third straight sets win, ousting the top seed Jayden Court 6-1 6-4 in 65 minutes to finish the round robin stage with three wins. 

Connor Johnson joined him in the quarters following a 6-2 4-0 win over Campbell Salmon who couldn't finish the match after losing 10 of the first 11 games. In Group B, Thomas Bosancic withdrew and he was replaced by Cooper White who defeated the 8th seed Chen Dong 2-6 6-4 6-1. Still, Dong will play in the quarters, together with the 2nd seed Rinky Hijikata who defeated Alex Bulte 6-3 6-3 for the third straight sets win in the round robin stage. The 3rd seed Dane Sweeny was the player to beat in Group C, beating Stefan Storch 6-0 7-5 for his third win and moving into the last eight together with the 6th seed Ken Cavrak who prevailed over Sean Van Rensburg 4-6 6-3 6-3. 

In Group D, the 5th seed Matthew Dellavedova notched a thrilling 6-3 3-6 7-6 triumph over the direct rival for the knockout stage Tristan Schoolkate to finish second behind Tome Evans who secured the third win against Oliver Douglas to stay undefeated.
