Agent speaks about how doping ban changed Maria Sharapova
In an interview to Entrepreneur, Maria Sharapova's agent Max Eisenbud reflected on how being involved a lot with the company Sugarpova helped Maria Sharapova to get through her 15-month doping ban between 2016 and 2017 and not to let down completely. Speaking about the consequences of the doping ban, Eisenbud said: 'I’m not going to say it was good, but she made the most of the time. And the fact that her brand was so strong allowed her to get through a very bad, turbulent hurricane that most celebrity brands, or brands in general, could not have gotten through.'
Eisenbud also stressed that having a strong team of people helped Sharapova in having success with Sugarpova: 'You might have a great idea, you might be creative and have the drive, and you might still end up not being successful because you didn’t have the right voices around you.'
Eisenbud also added: 'Maria worked as hard as ever on bringing new products to market during that time period, and we touched base with all our customers and told them that we were going to continue to be successful and Maria was going to continue to be behind the brand. There was never space between us and Maria and our customers, and everybody stayed with the project.”
Meanwhile, about the WTA Tour, the 2008 Wimbledon quarter-finalist Tamarin Tanasugarn said: 'Now there a lot of personalities and different characters on the Tour. It's nice to see how new faces fight against legends. It's nice to see the greatest champion ever Serena Williams. It's nice that the new generation of players gets inspired by Serena.'
