Anna Wintour: I have missed fashion shows just to see Roger Federer play
Anna Wintour is an ardent fan of Roger Federer. The editor-in-chief of Vogue Magazine and artistic director of Conde Nast attends the Swiss player's matches whenever she can Federer and his wife Mirka have also met Wintour several times at fashion shows, and the American recently gave some suggestions to Federer in the decision to switch from Nike to Uniqlo in June. 'I flew around the world for his tournaments, suffered when he fell behind and got ecstatic when he won,' said Wintour. 'I've even occasionally missed fashion shows just to see Roger play, who is certainly the greatest tennis player of all time. As a lifelong tennis fan who spent years in New York watching this tournament on television at all times of the day and night. I'm delighted to be traveling to Melbourne to see my very first Australian Open first-hand."
Meanwhile, Wintour will work as keynote speaker at the Australian Open Inspirational Series on Thursday 24 January, the day when the two women's semi-finals matches will be played. 'As a lifelong tennis fan who's spent years watching the Australian Open on television at odd hours of the day and night in New York and elsewhere, I'm delighted to be headed to Melbourne to see my very first Australian Open up close and in-person,' said Wintour. 'And - particularly given the dynamic state of today's women's tour - I'm very excited to speak about the transformative impact of women in the game, both on the court and off, in terms of what's been accomplished as well as what challenges remain.'
