Bernard Tomic joins star-studded Kooyong Classic player field
Australian tennis star Bernard Tomic has been added to the 2019 Kooyong Classic player field.
The 26-year-old is due to make his fifth appearance on the hard courts of Kooyong.
Tomic, who debuted at Kooyong in 2010, won it all at the well-known Australian exhibition tournament in 2012 when he beat American Mardy Fish in the final.
The Australian didn't play at Kooyong for four straight years but returned to the tournament in 2017.
Tomic was scheduled to open his 2018 campaign in the Brisbane qualifying event -- but withdrew.
The former world No. 17 played a match at Kooyong before he kicked off his Australian Open qualifying campaign.
Tomic, now ranked at No. 83 in the world, won't have to play the Australian Open qualifying event in 2019.
The Australian hasn't entered either Brisbane or Sydney -- which will be held in the opening week of the season and the second week of the season respectively.
Tomic's preparation for the Australian Open may only include the Kooyong event.
Chengdu Open champion Tomic will be joined at Kooyong by 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic, 2018 Wimbledon runner-up Kevin Anderson and 2018 US Open runner-up Juan Martin del Potro.
