Boris Becker: 'Novak Djokovic's comeback was just a matter of time'

In an interview to Sport.cz, the six-time Grand Slam winner Boris Becker commented on Novak Djokovic's comeback at the highest level. The Serb worked with Becker from end of 2013 to end of 2016 winning six Grand Slams. 'He has a winning mentality', Becker said on Djokovic. 'I am happy that he is with his old team, which gives him confidence. For me it was just a matter of time before he came back at the top. When he gives his best in training and he plays enough matches, he returns and he is there again.'

Becker added: 'My chapter as a coach is closed. With Novak we are friends and we often speak of tennis. We have a similar mentality. We play to win.'

On Stefanos Tsitsipas, Becker concluded: 'At 19 years he is beating top ten players like nothing. He plays being calm and excited, he seems really good.'

John McEnroe was another big player in the past Millennium. Speaking to Sueddetusche, McEnroe commented on organizers often putting top players at night, especially Federer. 'There are times where they exaggerate a bit', McEnroe admitted. 'Everything is about the entertainment. Obviously, I know that Roger is not really connected to Tennis Australia, he can stay alone.'

McEnroe has often served as the commissioner of tennis on TV and he has been asking an independent manager of the game for 30-40 years. And if he took this role? 'I would like to fight to make players have a real partnership with the tournaments, especially Grand Slams. It would be extremely important for them to see themselves as a partner.'

McEnroe also made other proposals: 'The way Davis Cup is developing, it has no sense to continue further. And the doubles, what does it bring to tennis?'
