Cameron Norrie:'Roger Federer is the GOAT, it would be special to beat him'

The 31st edition of the Hopman Cup has started in Perth on Saturday and the first winner was Great Britain who defeated Greece in the clash of four debutants at this event. The 23-year-old Cameron Norrie made a perfect start, beating world number 15 Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6, 6-4 to secure the opening point for his country who ousted Greece 2-1 after a thrilling mixed doubles match and match points he and Katie Boulter had to save against Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari. On Sunday, Great Britain will face the ultimate test, battling against the defending champions Switzerland, led by Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic.

Cameron played in three ATP semi-finals in 2018 and he is ready for more of the same in the season in front of us, hoping to improve his ranking and seek the place in his first ATP final. After scoring wins over Roberto Bautista Agut, John Isner, Nick Kyrgios and Borna Coric, Cameron will have a chance to play against one of the greatest players of all time in what will be one of the biggest moments of his young career (he was a prominent Collegiate player before turning pro). For Cameron, it is an honor to share the court with the player he called the greatest of all time and he will do his best to make the match competitive and show his best tennis against the living legend of our sport.

"If I claim an upset against Roger I'd claim it for the rest of my life," Norrie said "I'd be 1-0 against him so it would be a very special moment for me and I'm really looking forward to it. I think it's every player's dream to play Federer. He is just such an icon for the sport and I think he's the GOAT (greatest of all time), so it's going to be a very special one. It's pretty special to share the court with such a legend of the game, so I'm just going to make the most of it and hopefully make it a competitive match."
