Ferrer on French Open final vs Rafael Nadal: 'I would have loved to win'
In an interview to Marca, David Ferrer recalled his 2013 French Open straight-set final loss to Rafael Nadal. The 36-year-old had played a great tournament defeating the local hero Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semifinals, but he was dominated by Nadal in the championship clash. Speaking about not being able to win a Major in his career, Ferrer said: 'I would have loved to win one. And so completing my curriculum. It does not hurt me, because I gave everything. It's a thing that misses on my achievements.'
Ferrer is committed to Hopman Cup, Auckland, Buenos Aires, Acapulco, Barcelona and Madrid in 2019 before retiring from tennis. 'I will play these last six tournaments at my best, as always. I have enough motivation to do well. When you do not win matches that you usually win or you cannot play the tournament you would love to, I think it's a good time to leave and open a new stage of your life. I go week by week, now I am excited because I am having a good pre-season.'
Commenting on his retirement, Ferrer said: 'I try not to think about how it will be, because it makes you have some expectations and then you have others. If I learned something is not to predict the future, but doing your best every day and playing the remaining tournaments giving my best. I will miss tennis and competition. I love playing, if it was for it I would continue on Tour.'
