Halep needs to follow examples of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal: Cahill

Simona Halep's former coach Darren Cahill praised the Romanian's achievement. This year Halep won her maiden Major at the French Open defeating Sloane Stephens in a three-set final. 'I think that a few people could have imagined what Simona did in the last years,' said Cahill. 'She is so strong, fighting against the biggest players, almost every time. Every day you have to fight for the win, and sometimes she can struggle. But when you look at her results in the last five years, honestly, you have to be proud for it. We have to follow Nadal and Federer's example: they try to improve their game. Look at Nadal: spending four hours a day even if he won 11 French Open titles. We are lucky to have these examples in the sport, we have to look at them to develope our game.'

The Australian-Romanian duo had a successful cooperation which ended in October after Cahill announced that he wanted to be with his family instead of travelling with a player full-time during the season. Speaking about their partnership, Cahill said, 'Romanians are very different than Australians. We are much more relaxed. When we lose we are like "Okay, we have to work more." It's a completely different thing. The whole country has a different philosophy. They feel disappointed at times. Halep is an amazing person, both on court and off it. You saw how many messages she got from other players. In the end, there was no relief for her, but joy. The pressure she had on her shoulders was so big in the last two years. It's an enormous thing for Romania.'
