Khachanov: Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal are competition apart
Russian no. 1 Karen Khachanov is clearly very satisfied with his 2018 season as he won his maiden Masters 1000 title at the Paris Masters, Moscow and the Marseille Open. Speaking about his improvements, Khachanov said: 'I think my serve really came togerher, as well as the on-court movement. In general, I played aggressive, my tennis should just be about it, we work on it. We improved tactics and for example, on some days, when things were not working I still managed to win matches finding a way. I improved a lot mentally. I became more comfortable in tie-breaks, where everyone is nervous. Do not believe at someone who says that is calm in these moments. You literally have seconds to decide how to play. You exactly need to know what you want to do, develope a plan, and eventually make some changes along the way.'
Commenting on his competition with the top guys, Khachanov added: 'I always go out convinced to be able to win, whoever is Novak, Rafa or Roger. Now Andy Murray has made a come back. I think that if I will improve my game, I am able to beat my opponent. Of course, Djokovic, Nadal and Federer are very strong. They are in a competition apart. I remember I played with (Marin) Cilic and even if I lost, during the match you do not feel pressue all the time. He makes mistakes as well.'
