Lucas Pouille confident Amelie Mauresmo will help him achieve his goals

French tennis star Lucas Pouille didn't hide his excitement after hiring Amelie Mauresmo as his new coach.

The Frenchman split with his long-time coach Emmanuel Planque last month, ending their six-year partnership.

L'Equipe reported on Wednesday that French tennis legend Mauresmo would replace Planque.

The partnership between Pouille and Mauresmo was made official a day later on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Planque has started collaborating with rising French star Corentin Moutet.

Pouille is eager to put on a strong offseason and get back on the right track in 2019.

The Frenchman made a promising start to the 2018 season, reaching the finals in Montpellier, Marseille and Dubai.

Pouille, now ranked at No. 32 in the world, achieved his career-high ranking of No. 10 at the beginning of March.

The season then went downhill for the Frenchman.

While reflecting on his 2018 campaign recently, the 24-year-old didn't hide his disappointment over a poor form and results.

Mauresmo is a former world No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion.

"I'm very happy to start my new collaboration with Amelie Mauresmo. Her experience as a player and coach can help me achieve my goals. I'm sure we are going to do great things together," Pouille wrote on Twitter.

Despite a disappointing campaign, the 24-year-old still achieved one of his goals for 2018 -- to enter the top-10 for the first time in is career.
