Rafa Nadal Academy to host Spanish U23 Championship

The Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) has announced the first edition of the National Future Master for the U23 players, hosted by Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar between December 20-22. The Mallorcan Jaume Munar, the most promising Spanish youngster who has cracked the Top 100 in 2018 will lead the field, battling against Pedro Martinez, Mario Vilella, Alejandro Davidovich, Javier Barranco, Bernabe Zapata, Carlos Taberner and Carlos Alcaraz under the ATP NextGen rules. Munar had a chance to play under them in Milan at the NextGen Masters, reaching the semi-final and showing his class against some of the best players of the upcoming generation. 

Pedro Martinez is another player born in 1997 who is currently ranked 154th, standing as the second favorite ahead of Mario Vilella and a former Wimbledon junior champion Alejandro Davidovich. The spectators at the Rafa Nadal Academy will also have a chance to see the 15-year-old Carlos Alcaraz, one of the best players born in 2003 who has reached the quarter-final on his professional debut in February when he was still 14! The most promising Spanish girls will have the opportunity to play as well, with Aliona Bolsova as the leader of the pack and the only player ranked inside the Top 200. 

Guiomar Maristany, Eva Guerrero, Marina Bassols, Irene Burillo, Maria Gutierrez, Claudia Hoste and Rosa Vicens are the remaining players in the draw, fighting for the first ever National Future Master crown. Toni Nadal, the director of the Rafa Nadal Academy has been excited about this new tournament and especially for Munar who will have a chance to compete at home, working here at the Academy when he is not on the Tour. Munar is thrilled to have this rare chance of playing at home and also with the exciting NextGen rules that will keep the scoreboard tight and intense from start to finish.
