Roger Federer can keep Father Time at a bay for longer time, says Annacone

In an interview to Express, Paul Annacone, who worked as coach with Roger Federer from 2010 to 2013, said the Swiss player could have another great run in 2019. Annacone cited Djokovic and Nadal's examples indicating that Federer was not done yet. 'As in the past - do not count the greats out. Novak was amazing in the second half of 2018. Rafa was spectacular the first half - if they are both healthy I see them competing for the number one ranking. Roger didn’t play great this year. A terrific start, but for his talents and our expectations he was good, not great, after the beginning of 2018. I am intrigued to see how Roger starts 2019 - to see if he can keep Father Time at bay for a bit longer,' said Annacone.

About Wawrinka and Murray, who are trying to get back at their best level after dealing with injuries, and on the next generation, Annacone added: 'I think still big questions for Stan and Andy - how healthy are they and how much of the year can they play? The game is way better with both of them at the top of their games so I’m hoping for good health and a large sample size of matches for them in 2019. We keep talking about the youngsters and [Alexander] Zverev, [Borna] Coric and [Stefanos] Tsitsipas are closest to the elite level. I will be curious to see how Tsitsipas manages his new landscape and all that comes with knocking at the door of greatness, but Zverev is right there. Next question to answer is; can Zverev sustain that terrific year end level we saw in London for seven matches in three of five sets at the Majors? With his growing experience and maturity, the answer should be yes.'
