No one will be similar to Rafael Nadal, says Madrid Open organizer

The former tennis player and current Mutua Madrid Open organizer Alberto Berasategui believes that the Spanish tennis will keep being at the top in the future, but seeing players achieving the same success as Rafael Nadal will be complicated. 'You have nothing impossible, but it's very, very difficult to equal or do something similar to Rafa', said Berasategui. 'I see it complicated in the next future. When we are not here, other people may see it, but I see it difficult that in our country someone can do similar as Rafa.'

Berasategui also commented on the Caja Magica of Madrid hosting the Davis Cup in 2019 and 2020: 'It will be good. Madrid as a city needs to be happy to host an event like the Davis Cup, besides the Mutua Madrid Open, because it makes the city become the tennis capital for a couple of weeks. The dates, in November, may not be the best, but it's a precious competition and we will see how it develops and if players will come. Madrid can host two high-level competitions.'

The Madrid Open will stay in the current city at least until 2021, and authorities are currently working on a new agreement for the future. 'Hopefully, it goes on for ten more years', said Berasategui. 'I think it's a solid tournament and that it stays in Madrid. When the players make their schedule, they plan to come to Madrid. It's very important to have the best players because Madrid deserves it. It's an honour for the city to have a tournament like this.'
