'Umpires behave the same with Federer, Nadal, Williams' - Suarez Navarro

In an interview to Marca, Carla Suarez Navarro commented on Serena Williams' controversial behaviour with the chair umpire Carlos Ramos during the US Open final. Suarez Navarro believes the Spaniard just did his job. 'I think she got carried away', Navarro said about Serena. 'The umpires needs to do his job like the linesmen and Serena herself do. Umpires have some rules and if an umpire serves at a Grand Slam final is because of the work previously done in his matches. Serena needs to know that rules are the same for everyone. The umpire will never go in favour of her or against her. I suppose that she will have seen and that she will have asked for forgiveness. It's sad that in Osaka's first Major you were speaking more about what happened than the victory.'

Asked if the umpires are sexist, being in favour of men, Suarez Navarro replied: 'I think you have not a different treatment. Having more "warnings" in men's matches has more sense because they play at five sets. They are on court for a longer time than us. Umpires behave the same with everyone. You have a series or players that we and even umpires know that they can complain and so you are more careful about them. There are umpires who gave a warning to Rafa, Federer, Serena and Sharapova. It means they umpire the same.'
