We are not perfect as Roger is, says CEO of the Federer Foundation
When you think about Roger Federer, you imagine the perfection, although the Swiss player often says he should not be described as someone perfect. In an interview to the CNN, the CEO of the Roger Federer Foundation Janine Händel commented on how the responsibility they hold in representing the Swiss legend. 'Being the Roger Federer Foundation people tend to think we are as perfect as Roger is, and that's not the case', admitted Händel. 'We are an organization with our failures, with our successes, but we try to give our best and to reach the best possible standards we can have in terms of governance, transparency, impact the organization, so all these three factors are in the Swiss Foundation code which we truly believe in. But we need to fight and challenge ourselves and the board of course, in every single meeting. We should be a role model in this.'
Händel also explained how they seek and pick help from local charity organizations: 'There are millions of very good and legitimate initiatives programmes around, there are probably 1,500 a year. But in our case we do not react to unsolicited proposals, we redefine first on a strategic level what we want to achieve in the next seven, ten years. We create this strategy together with partners and if we need additional partners for what we do, we do call for proposals where we invite very selective organizations which bring already a track record, which we have the right size, and they come in then with the concept and together we create that program.'
