ATP Acapulco - Entry List: Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev top charts

The Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco is one of 13 events of the ATP 500 series and also among the most favorite tournaments in the ATP calendar. It all started back in 1993 and the players like Thomas Muster, a four-time champion in those initial years, Gustavo Kuerten, Carlos Moya, Rafael Nadal, Nicolas Almagro, and David Ferrer have all won the title here while clay was still the surface. Acapulco switched to hard courts in 2014 to attract the stronger field of competitors and it paid off, gathering players from the very top like in 2017 when Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic led the pack.

Twelve months ago, Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev were the top seeds although the Spaniard didn't play, deciding to withdraw before the event and leaving Zverev, Anderson, del Potro and Isner to compete for the title. The organizers have managed to attract some big names for the 2019 edition as well, with Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev leading the pack for the second year in a row. Dominic Thiem and Juan Martin del Potro have both opted to skip Acapulco but despite that there are four top-10 stars, with Kevin Anderson and John Isner as seeds three and four.

Diego Schwartzman, Grigor Dimitrov, Alex de Minaur and the Australian Open semi-finalist Lucas Pouille (asked for a wild card) are in contention for a good result as well, hoping to reach the quarters and set the clashes against the players from the very top. Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz, 2017 winner Sam Querrey, Nick Kyrgios and Stan Wawrinka are in the group of dangerous players ranked below the top-35 and we should get some fantastic matches right from the opening round.
