British tennis player Dan Evans reflected on the days when he was playing his best tennis.
The Briton appeared to be heading for a great 2017 season but then a bad mistake ruined everything.
Evans, 28, made a great start to the 2017 season as he fell just short of winning his maiden ATP title at the Sydney International.
The 28-year-old ended runner-up to Luxembourg's Gilles Muller in the Sydney final.
The Briton then achieved his career-best result at a Grand Slam as he made the round-of-16 at the Australian Open after beating the likes of Facundo Bagnis, Bernard Tomic and Marin Cilic.
Evans soon broke into the top-50 for the first time in his career as he reached his career-high ranking of No. 41 in the world in March.
Unfortunately, Evans' 2017 season came to an end prematurely after he tested positive for cocaine at the Barcelona Open.
The Briton was handed a one-year for his actions.
When asked about his best days, Evans said, per The Telegraph: "I was settled into being a professional. I was 40 [in the world]. I was embedded. I wasn't going anywhere. I would have had to do something drastically – well, wrong, clearly – but wrong on the tennis court to drop out of the top 100. Whatever happens in your life makes the future, doesn't it?"
Evans, now ranked at No. 190 in the world, is now bidding to return to the Grand Slam action as he has made the Australian Open qualifying final round.
The Briton hasn't played at a Major since French Open 2017.
