Future will tell if Laver Cup is successful after Federer retires - Kuhnen

In an interview to Tennis World USA, the BMW Open of Munich Tournament Director Patrik Kuhnen commented on the Laver Cup future. So far the event had a big success, but what will happen once Roger Federer and all the other top players retire? Kuhnen commented: 'So far it was a great event for tennis, it had a lot of attraction bringing top players in. Only the time can tell if the tournament when Roger Federer will not play anymore. So far it's a great event with big potential.'

On the Australian Open favourites, he added: 'The way Djokovic has made his comeback in 2018, he is definitely one of the top favourites. The top fours in the rankings are the biggest favourites. Alexander Zverev can come up with something really big.'

Kuhnen also recalled Andy Murray's title dated back to four years ago. The Brit will end his career this year due to a hip injury. 'When he played in 2015, he did not play in Monte Carlo because it came too early - he had got married - and he decided to start his clay-court season in Munich, which was a smart decision. He won in Munich playing a Monday final and went on to win Madrid beating Nadal in the final. He also did quarter-finals in Rome and semifinals at the French Open.'

Federer and Rafael Nadal committed to play the Laver Cup in Geneva from 20 to 22 September this year. More players' announcements are expected in the coming months.
