John McEnroe and Navratilova to face off in exhibition match at Wimbledon
Sunday, 19 May of 2019 will be a historical day for Wimbledon. The 18-time female Grand Slam winner Martina Navratilova and the seven-time Major winner John McEnroe will play an exhibition match on the Court No. 1 to test the retractable roof that is being built. 12,000 people are expected to attend the match through tickets, whose proceeds will be sent to the Wimbledon Foundation and charity organizations picked by the players.
Music performances will be showcased as well, and more former tournament champions will be announced along with the course.
“We are delighted to be hosting this special event to celebrate the unveiling of the No.1 Court roof and raise funds for some important charitable causes", said Philip Brook, the AELTC Chairman. "We are very excited to be welcoming John and Martina to participate in the event as yet another milestone in their long histories with the AELTC and we look forward to announcing more players and some truly memorable entertainment in the coming weeks and months.”
