'Kei Nishikori looked like a ghost' - Pundit blasts the tennis star

Speaking on The Tennis Podcast David Law commented on Kei Nishikori's retirement from the Australian Open quarter-final match against Novak Djokovic on Wednesday. Law said: “We are so close to them physically in the back of the court, our commentary box is right in line with the centre service line judge and he had a couple of rallies with him and he walked towards us and the guy looked like a ghost. He looked spent out there, I still didn’t really think he was going to retire anytime soon."

Fellow Expert Catherine Whitaker said: "Nobody was that disappointed when he retired [Nishikori]. It put us all out of our misery, Kei included. It’s bitterly disappointing for him not being able to compete in a big match, the facts are however much you have sympathy for him. When you see his name on a quarter-finals order of play, like Nishikori himself my shoulders do sink a bit. Fake it until you make it, his shoulders had gone after a game.”

Nishikori is committed to play the ABN Amro Open in Rotterdam and the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship in February, but his appearance in the Dutch event is in doubt.
