Mats Wilander blasts Laver Cup founded by Roger Federer: 'It's business'

Seven-time Grand Slam winner Mats Wilander believes that too many team competitions are not good for tennis. Speaking to sport.sk, the Swede said: 'Laver Cup is just a show, a commercial affair for appearances', admitted Wilander on the event founded by Roger Federer and his agent Tony Godsick.

Wilander also doesn't like the new Davis Cup finals format: 'They cancelled the home and away format, they moved the competition to another place and they reduced the number of matches. It may lighten up the tennis calendar and give a little bit of money to players, but you have to be aware of the consequences in every country that will not see its best players at home for years, maybe anymore. Will kids in Belgium, Croatia or Slovakia watch the matches on TV during just a few days in November with more interest than if they played in Bruxelles, Zagreb or Bratislava every week?'

He has many memories connected to the Davis Cup: 'We were very bad when Borg won Wimbledon but we were looking forward to him get back to Sweden. During the Davis Cup week, the whole country was into the match.'
