Nick Kyrgios: 'Bernard Tomic went through rough times'

Nick Kyrgios believes that Bernard Tomic is a unique player. A lot has been said about their relationship, but both of them respect each other and in an interview during the Kooyong Classic last week, Kyrgios said he is amazed at Tomic's game and personality. "I don’t think there’s ever been a player like ‘BT’", the 23-year-old said. "He’s extremely talented, and I’m always hoping that he puts in the hard yards because his game’s so incredibly hard to play against. It’s just good to see him back out here and enjoying himself again. I know he was going through some rough times, but he won a title last year and it looks like he’s carrying a bit of momentum, so it’s good to see.'

On his mindset for the rest of 2019, Kyrgios added: 'I'm still in the tournament. I got doubles tomorrow. All my focus goes in there. I'm going to come out there, just bluff my way through a doubles match, see how it goes. Obviously playing with one of my best mates again, which is pretty special. I know this means a lot to him, being part of the Australian Open, playing doubles. That's all I'm focusing on. It's going to be a lot of fun. I don't know what I'm going to do yet honestly. Obviously, I'd like to play well. Right now I'm just focusing on the doubles, I guess.'
