Novak Djokovic is a better player than two years ago, says Wilander

Mats Wilander believes that Novak Djokovic is a different player than when he had last won the Australian Open in 2016. A lot has happened in the Serbian player's life and career, since then. 'He hits the ball way more clearer now,' said Wilander. 'He hits the ball more aggressive, his forehand is more of a weapon - his backhand is the best, he never makes mistakes - but with the forehand he uses more angles, spins the ball and then goes for it. Today and in the whole tournament he seemed like he could go for winners every time he felt he could do it. To me as well as the movement. He had surgery last year, and now he moves in an amazing way. Could he train that in the months he was away? I don't believe that. It's his tactical ability, his fighting spirit, and everything starts in the heart. I think he is gonna win other two Majors this year and then he would suddenly reach 17.'

Wilander spoke about the new rules: 'I liked that the Australian Open introduced the super tie-break to ten points because it gives you a sort of second chance in the the tie-break. Should all the other three Majors adopt the same rule? Maybe.'

Dejan Stankovic was in Melbourne at the Australian Open watching his compatriot Novak Djokovic defeating Rafael Nadal to win the title. In an interview to Sport Klub, Stankovic praised the Serb. 'I gave him support to win the title. I had the (good) luck to watch such a champion writing the tennis history. I am really happy, he is one of the greatest athletes of all time and he has all my support. What he is doing is really surprising and I honestly admire him. He had a natural development in using his tennis talent to win the best tournaments in the world. But what he managed to do after the injury confirmed his high class that only belongs to big athletes and great people.'
