Playing until 3:12 AM is unhealthy, says Johanna Konta

Johanna Konta and Garbine Muguruza ended their second-round match at the Australian Open on Friday at 3:12 AM local time. In her post-match interview, the Brit admitted she was not happy with starting and finishing the match late. "I don't agree with athletes having to physically exert themselves in the wee hours of the morning," admitted Konta. "I don't think it is healthy - in fact it is quite dangerous. However, Garbine and I were both in the same position and, with the circumstances, we really put on a great match and it's just a shame more people couldn't enjoy it."

Muguruza said: "I can't believe there are people watching us at 3:15am. We play for you guys watching - otherwise why are we here? It was very tough. Johanna played very good, serving incredibly and hitting big shots. I just tried to hang in there. I'm very happy because it was a very tough match. She played very high level. At some point just we were both playing great. So just waiting for any chance in both sides."

Analyzing the match, the 2017 Wimbledon winner added: "I think we both served great. We kept it. It was very difficult to break each other. I'm very happy I didn't get break and that kept me alive during the whole match." On Saturday, Muguruza won her third round against Timea Bacsinszky in straight sets to reach the round-of-16.
