Roger Federer: '2019 Laver Cup with Rafael Nadal is gonna be sick and fun'

Why didn't Kei Nishikori and Hyeon Chung play the Laver Cup in 2017 and 2018, which marked the first two years of the event? The Team World was always less strong than the Team Europe that always featured at least two between Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic per year. Nishikori and Chung can help the Laver Cup increasing its popularity in Asia, and Federer hinted these two players may commit to this year's event in Geneva from 20 to 22 September.

'That could change. Nishikori was asked to play the last couple of years and he chose not, maybe the first he was injured I am not sure what happened there', revealed Federer. 'And I don't know if Chung was not picked by McEnroe, but whoever puts himself in a driver's seat there and qualifies and is selected by the captain, that's their choice really but I think it'd be great if you have big variety of guys. We were happy to have Delpo playing twice but he withdrew and that was disappointing. Then Schwartzman qualified and he was over the moon, that was his big goal of the year, so it was for a lot of other guys but McEnroe likes the big serving guys that can be extremely dangerous in singles and doubles and it was extremely close in the last couple of years. So the mistake is not McEnroe. The next one will be in Geneva, incredibly exciting, and also Rafa (Nadal) was really announced and he is gonna play with me on the team, that's gonna be sick and a lot of fun. I can't wait to see where it's gonna go, and spend another week with Bjorn Borg is a dream come true so it's a lovely event.'
