Week 5: the girls back on the court and the 2019 Davis Cup starts!

With the Australian Open behind us, some of the great protagonists find themselves for important events. The most anticipated, of course, is the first Davis Cup qualifying round. There is great curiosity around the new format of the historic competition, revolutionized starting by this season.

On February 1st and February 2nd, 24 teams will take to the court in 12 elimination matches. Among the teams involved in qualifications, Australia, Germany, Italy, Serbia, Belgium, Brazil and Japan. They are already qualified for the final week, in November, Croatia, France, Spain, USA, Argentina and Great Britain.

The girls will be involved in two WTA events: Hua Hin, in Thailand, on hard, and St. Petersbourgh (hard indoor) in Russia. In Thailand, Garbine Muguruza leads the seeding. Caroline Garcia and Dayana Yastremska will also be there.

In Russia, Belinda Bencic failed to pass the qualifying round. But there will be many stars on the court: Maria Sharapova, Viktoria Azarenka, Daria Kasatkina, Jelena Ostapenko, Julia Goerges, Dominika Cibulkova, Kiki Bertens and Kristina Mladenovic. Petra Kvitova, the finalist in Melbourne, leads the seeding.

There will be Challenger tournaments in Cleveland (USA), Launceston (Australia) and Quimper (France).
