ATP Buenos Aires - DRAW: Dominic Thiem and Fabio Fognini are favorites

The Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club will host the ATP 250 event for the 19th consecutive year, gathering excellent clay courters who will battle for the title in the second stop of the Latin American "Golden Swing" after Cordoba. Gustavo Kuerten, Carlos Moya, Guillermo Coria, Gaston Gaudio, David Nalbandian, Tommy Robredo, Juan Carlos Ferrero, David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal had all won the title here in the past, joined by Dominic Thiem who went all the way in 2016 and 2018. The defending champion is the top seed, skipping Cordoba but entering Buenos Aires where he is the favorite to lift the crown on Sunday.

The Austrian will kick off the campaign against Maximilian Marterer or Facundo Bagnis, having to beat Marcelo Arevalo, Pablo Cuevas, Cordoba finalist Juan Ignacio Londero or the 5th seed Joao Sousa to reach the semis. The 4th seed Diego Schwartzman hopes for a better result than in Cordoba, facing Guido Andreozzi or Aljaz Bedene in the second round. The only three-time champion of this event David Ferrer competes in Buenos Aires for the last time before ending his career in Madrid later in May, looking to beat the 8th seed Malek Jaziri before the second round clash against Albert Ramos-Vinolas or a qualifier Rogerio Dutra Silva.

In the third quarter, Marco Cecchinato and Nicolas Jarry are the seeded players but they will have to pass some tough obstacles to set the quarter-final clash, with  Lorenzo Sonego, Roberto Carballes Baena, Taro Daniel, Christian Garin and Felix Auger-Aliassime as their opponents. The young Canadian earned the main draw wild card and it will be interesting to see him in action against Garin, with both capable of playing some fine tennis on clay. Dusan Lajovic and Leonardo Mayer forge another interesting first-round pair and the winner plays against Guido Pella or Francisco Cerundolo who grabbed the invitation to make an ATP debut.

Jaume Munar, Federico Delbonis and the 2nd seed Fabio Fognini are the remaining players in the bottom quarter and we should get some exciting matches right from the start. Full draw:
