Piotr Wozniacki comments on how disease influences Caroline's life

In an interview to sport.pk Caroline Wozniacki's father, Piotr, commented on the Dane's decision to withdraw the Fed Cup tournament in Zielona Góra. Wozniacki has been dealing with rheumatoid arthritis since last year and this is the reason why she will not play. "She is not properly prepared to represent the country because of illness", Piotr explained. "We do not know how long my daughter will be able to play tennis. For now, we are happy that he gets up for the next day and can train. Caroline is ready to play 50% at the moment. This is not enough to take the Fed Cup competition seriously. That is why she had to withdraw. Especially when you represent a country, you want to be prepared for 100%. Unfortunately, it was not possible at the moment."

Wozniacki is set to play just one tournament in February, the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship. By skipping the Fed Cup, she will not be initially eligible to play the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. "We are aware of this risk, but on the other hand we do not know how this season will be going", admitted Piotr. "We are in a new situation, with a disease that was diagnosed last year."

Caroline lost to the Australian Open in the third round with Maria Sharapova and failed to defend Melbourne title from the previous season. Has the disease affected this? "I always say that when Caroline lost the match, she lost to her rival, who was better on that day. We never hide the fact that someone had a broken leg, a headache or other problems. We lost with a girl who just played better at that meeting."

About Agnieszka Radwanska's decision to retire from tennis, Piotr added: "I expected it, but at the same time I was a bit surprised. My child also plays tennis and I know how much Iśka cost sacrifice, hard day-to-day work, discipline, etc. In addition, she has had health problems for a long time and sometimes at dinner, she gently suggested how much it costs. She fought as much as she could, but these injuries did not give her peace."
